About
Lisa Kinzelberg is a fine artist based in Chicago, Illinois. Her latest series, "Cities of the World" celebrates cities and towns around the globe, and offers a unique spin on the idea of a streetmap. While each work is an accurate, diagrammatic representation of the physical features of a city, Lisa also incorporates her take on the energy, feel and aesthetic of the places she renders. Using her signature abstract style of layered oil paint, she encapsulates bustling people, buildings, parks and "goings-on" -- creating unique-one-of-a-kind "maps." Therefore, unlike a traditional "map," each piece is quite different -- ranging from the historic, un-soiled-by-fires streets of Le Marais Paris, to the cozy, brownstone-lined neighborhoods within Lincoln Park, Chicago, to the modern-meets desert metropolis of Dubai. She overlays this energetic city layer with an accurate streetgrid map.
Lisa's work marvels at how we attach deep, personal meaning to any particular "place" -- she shows us how profound it is that the places we inhabit have their own character, history, personal meaning and compelling existence in our hearts and minds that far exceeds the sum of its parts.
The series has already been placed into private collections and is currently exhibited at Virgil Catherine Gallery in Hinsdale, Illinois and 33 Contemporary Gallery in Palm Beach and Miami, Florida.
Lisa will show her work next at SCOPE International Contemporary Art Fair during Art Basel week in Miami Dec. 3-8, booth G017, with D. Colabella Fine Art Gallery. Recently Lisa was interviewed about her new series by Xen Sams and Anna Devere on The Voice of New York / I HeartRadio and CanvasRebel Magazine.
Lisa is not new to Art Basel week. She showed her abstract paintings in 2023 with Vogelsang Gallery, Brussels, at Context Art Miami, and successfully placed her work in a private collection. Miami Living Magazine took notice and covered her debut in Miami.
Lisa’s work is at Virgil Catherine Gallery in Hinsdale, Illinois, and is part of private collections around the U.S. She has been featured in numerous publications including Miami Living Magazine’s online cover for her debut at CONTEXT, Art Basel; in Hinsdale Living for her group show at Virgil Catherine Gallery; on the cover of Sheridan Road Magazine for her show at Vivid Gallery in Winnetka; as well as in North Shore Modern Luxury Magazine as a "local influencer."
